‘Doc’ Riley receives Trainer of the Year

     Jacksonville – James W. “Doc” Riley, II, was named by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) as the Athletic Trainer of the Year by its College/University Athletic Trainers’ Committee.

     Now in his eighth year as MacMurray’s head athletic trainer and an assistant professor of physical education at the college, he will be formally recognized at the CUATC educational session at this year’s annual NATA meeting to be held June 15th in Atlanta, Ga.

     “Doc” Riley, as he is fondly known on campus, is directly responsible for the care and treatment of all fifteen athletic teams at MacMurray.

     He began his athletic training career at Winston Churchill College in Pontiac , IL in 1966. Since that time he has served as an Athletic Trainer at Centenary College of Louisiana, Utah State University, Kent State University, Eureka College , Southern Oregon State College, University of Wisconsin-Superior , North Greenville College and Newberry College . Additionally, he has also served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Houston Oilers Football Club and the New Orleans Saints Football Club of the National Football League.

     A native of Eureka, IL, “Doc” Riley has earned degrees from Winston Churchill College , Centenary College of Louisiana and the University of Central Oklahoma . He has a son who resides in Jacksonville, IL, and a daughter who is currently attending the University of Central Oklahoma.
