Wired Network Access - Remediation
Remediation is reserved for computers that may potentially cause harm to the MacMurray network because of security compromises or harmful software. Computers placed in remediation have an IP address similar to 10.12.xx.xx and may not access any parts of the web outside of www.mac.edu save for a select few sites.
If the Bradford agent on your computer detects a problem with your machine's security, you will be placed in remediation and isolated from the network until the issue is resolved. The scanner will notify you when you have been remediated and offers a link to tell you how your machine has failed the security scans.
Student Remediation
Students must adhere to a Student Policy set by the IT staff. This policy simply checks for the presence of anti-virus/anti-spyware software, out-of-date definitions, P2P software, and out-of-date operating systems.
If you see the following notifications, your computer has failed the security scan and is placed in remediation.

Click the link provided and you will be taken to the remediation notification page. Here, the system will tell you which policy you failed, in this case, the student policy.

Click "Student Policy" and you will see exactly why your computer failed the scan. In the screen below, the computer failed because it has BitTorrent (a P2P client) installed.

This screen will list all instances on your computer that did not pass the scan. For example, if you had more than one P2P client installed, a P2P client and no anti-virus software, out-of-date anti-virus software with a P2P client installed, etc. it would list all the offending programs. Note that (in the case of anti-virus software, the scan results list every program the agent scanned for and didn't find. In order to pass the scan, you only need one of the listed programs installed and up-to-date. Clicking on the name of a program will bring up instructions on how to remove or fix it to comply with the policy.
Once you have taken care of what was failing the scan, click the "Re-scan" button and the Bradford client will scan your computer again. If your computer clears the scan, your network configuration will change accordingly and you will be allowed back on the network. If not, you will stay in remediation and will be notified of anything else on your computer than does not meet the policy requirements and can continue the clean-up process.
If, for any reason, you are having difficulties removing programs or coming out of remediation when you have solved all the issues found by the client, please contact the IT department.
Guest Remediation
If you are on a guest account and have been remediated, you will lose network access and must run the dissolvable agent again to scan your system. When attempting to browse to an off-campus site, you should be notified that you have failed the guest policy.

Click "Guest Policy" and you will be prompted to run the Bradford Dissolvable Client.

After the scan, the results will be shown like on the following screen. Leave this page open in your browser so you can easily navigate to it later. In the screen below, the computer failed because it has no anti-virus or anti-spyware software installed.

This screen will list all instances on your computer that did not pass the scan. For example, if you had more than one P2P client installed, a P2P client and no anti-virus software, out-of-date anti-virus software with a P2P client installed, etc. it would list all the offending programs. Note that (in the case of anti-virus software, like the one above) the scan results list every program the agent scanned for and didn't find. In order to pass the scan, you only need one of the listed programs installed and up-to-date. Clicking on the name of a program will bring up instructions on how to remove or fix it to comply with the policy.
Once you have fixed the issues the scan uncovered, navigate to the "download" page on the remediation site and click the "Download" button to run the agent again.
