Why I Give — Parents
As a parent of a MacMurray student, you understand that your support will be additional investment in your child's past and present college experience. Through the generosity of many families, MacMurray College is able to provide resources, technology, academic support services, and a wide variety of extra-curricular activities for all MacMurray students.
Grant and Lisa Boyer
"It is particularly important to support a private college like MacMurray because they are also privately funded. If we don't help fund this valuable resource then who will?"
- Lisa Boyer
Encouraging your children to attend college is a strong step in securing a future for them, followed up closely by actually watching them walk out the door and make the trip towards their future. Grant and Lisa Boyer are no strangers to watching their children make that trip, but a decade ago, this proud couple had never even heard of MacMurray College. "We did not even know MacMurray existed 10 years ago, and now it is a major part of our life because it has provided two of our three children with a quality education, a family atmosphere with lifelong friendships, and the opportunity [for our children] to be NCAA student athletes."
The Boyers began their MacMurray journey at the end of the 2002 school year when they made their first visit to the campus with their son, Stan Boyer '06. Stan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2006 and was a member of the Highlander basketball team, where he served as a team captain his junior and senior year. "We are so glad we made that visit in May of 2002 to MacMurray and by next May we will have 2 MacMurray student-athlete alums." Beth Boyer, the youngest of the three Boyer children, just finished her junior year at Mac by being selected as a Mortar Board Honor Society member. Beth, an Interpreting and Deaf Education major, is following in her brother's footsteps as an active Highlander, playing both softball and golf.
Grant and Lisa have gone above and beyond to extend their support as proud MacMurray parents. "We were allowed and encouraged to engage with the College as parents in a positive and supportive way, and we have also really enjoyed all of our visits to Jacksonville. We think it is important to give back to Mac because we have always supported the schools and organizations that our children have been involved with."
The Boyers have been active donors since 2005 with their first gift going to MacMurray Athletics. "I do not remember the details of the first gift, but I know that we made it to support the team that our son was playing on. It was definitely to benefit the whole team as the coaches and teammates were such a valuable part of Stan's college life." Since that first gift, the Boyers have generously contributed to 4 different funds from the General Operating Fund to the Athletic Booster Fund and can been seen on campus at different athletic events.
MacMurray College is a special place for the Boyer family. The financial contribution and the encouraging mind frame of parents like Grant and Lisa Boyer is of irreplaceable value, and MacMurray depends on such distinct and selfless support. "We realized as our children were growing up, that going to a small private college could be less expensive due to high school academic success and could provide them the ability to participate in college athletics. It is particularly important to support a private college like MacMurray because they are also privately funded. If we don't help fund this valuable resource then who will?"
