COURSE OBJECTIVE:

The objective of the course is to prepare for writing a Senior Thesis spring semester. The fall semester will be spent in preliminary research, narrowing the topic for the thesis.

        First meeting 09/03/03

DUE DATES at 2pm meeting

-09/10/03 first draft of thesis statement, in writing

-09/17/03 final draft of thesis statement in writing

-10/01/03 first draft of 6 or more sub-points handed in writing

-11/12/03 first draft of proposal due

-12/09/03 final draft of proposal due


GRADING POLICY:

-75% of the grade will be based on the Thesis proposal handed in on December 3,2001.

-25% of the grade will be based on attendance at meetings, timeliness in meeting interim goals and the ability to discuss the work being done.


GUIDELINES FOR PROPOSAL:

-The proposal is to be 1000 to 1500 words long, typed and double-spaced.

    -The 1000 to 1500 words excludes the annotated list of sources.

-The proposal will include:

        -A thesis statement.

        -A proposed outline for the thesis with, at least, 6 sub-points.

                -Cite to sources.

        -A list of annotated sources.

                -The annotations should be a sentence or two long.

                -This list of sources will most likely not be the

                  complete list used for the thesis, but will be

        extensive, around 20 sources.
