Department of Education

The Department of Education notes that there are four "Benchmarks" that candidates need to meet in order to successfully complete the program here at MacMurray College. 

One
Completion of Freshman Year

n      Cumulative grade point average 2.0 and “C” in all Education courses

n      Completion of Technology in Education course

Two
Completion of Sophomore Year

n      Successful completion of field experience (B or better)

n      Formal application and admission to the Education Department

n      Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and “C” in all courses related to major

n      Passing scores on the Illinois Basic Skills Test

n      Portfolio evaluation

Three
  Pre-Candidate Teaching

n      Application for candidate teaching

n      Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 with “C” or better in courses related to major

n      Successful completion of the MacMurray Junior Level Writing Exam

n      Completion of MacMurray general education requirements

n      Satisfaction of the MacMurray math proficiency

n      Portfolio evaluation

n      Passage of the Content Area Test

n      Continued successful field experiences

n      Police background check

Four 
Completion of Program

n      Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and “C” or better in all courses related to major

n      Demonstration of mastery of knowledge, skills, dispositions across Teacher Performance expectations areas

n      Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 with “C” or better in all Education courses

n      Completion and final evaluation of candidate portfolio

n      Passage of the Assessment of Professional Teaching Exam (completed before you make application for state certification)
