Bill Koeppen

Head Men's Soccer Coach, Head Women's Soccer Coach

Bill Koeppen embarks on his first season as the Head Coach of the MacMurray men’s and women’s soccer programs in 2014. While new to MacMurray College, Koeppen is a veteran coach at the college level with sixteen years of experience behind him.

Koeppen began his collegiate career as an assistant coach with the Creighton University men’s and women’s soccer teams in 1990. While at Creighton, Koeppen helped lead an all-freshman roster in 1990 to a #2 NCAA national ranking and the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth. The following year, the Bluejays finished the regular season ranked #1 and earned a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament.

In 1994, Koeppen started the Bellevue University soccer program as the teams first-ever coach. Similar to his work at Creighton, Koeppen led Bellevue to a NAIA national ranking within three years. Koeppen’s three year stint as the head man at Bellevue produced a 36-24-1 record, a Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Award, and two NAIA All-Americans.

In 1998, Koeppen was called on by coaching colleague Sean Holmes to be the top assistant at Drake University. Koeppen proved instrumental in leading the Bulldogs to academic and athletic excellence. During his time with Drake, the Bulldogs maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher in all but one semester, reached the Top 25 for the first time ever in program history, and produced multiple MLS draft choices. Koeppen’s last two recruiting classes at Drake reached the NCAA Tournament First Round and Elite Eight, respectively.

Concurrent to Koeppen’s college career is a broad depth of coaching experience. Koeppen served clubs in Virginia, Nebraska, and Iowa as a staff coach and Technical Director. Additionally, Koeppen served as a state staff coach and instructor in Nebraska, Iowa ODP, as well as region staff coach with Region II ODP. While with Nebraska ODP, Koeppen guided the U16 Boys teams to three consecutive ODP Tournament Finals. In two years as the Head Coach of the Omaha Flames USL franchise, Koeppen led the Flames to the National Finals.  While winning has been a constant throughout Koeppen’s career, he considers the results a byproduct of recruiting and player development.

“We intend to recruit the best people possible that possess a righteous personal vision, who are dedicated to the educational process, and who want to challenge their athletic potential. MacMurray has a proud soccer heritage. It is our hope and aim to restore pride in the MacMurray soccer programs and establish a standard that Highlander Nation will support with full hearts,” said Koeppen.

What others are saying…

“Bill Koeppen is top a coach who I had the honor of playing for in college. Bill was instrumental in my development as a player but most importantly as a coach. I attribute much of my success to what I learned from Coach Koeppen, and I know the players at MacMurray will have the same experiences I did when I was in college playing for him.”
