Derek James '03

Head Men's Golf Coach, Head Women's Golf Coach, Head Women's Basketball Coach

Derek James is the new head women's basketball coach for the Highlanders.  This will be a new adventure for Coach James as he has been an assistant with the program for 4 years.  James also served as the men's assistant under coach Todd Creal for 5 years.  "I am very excited to step into the head coaching position.  Being an assistant for so long, I feel as my time has come.  We have a lot of very promising returners and a lot of talent coming in which makes for an exciting start to my first year."

Derek is a graduate of MacMurray College in 2003 where he competed in both basketball and golf. As a Highlander, Derek earned all conference honors three years in basketball and two years in golf. He is MacMurray's all time 3-point leader and is in the top ten all time in scoring, assists, and steals. As a golfer, Derek earned All Conference honors, player of the year, and a Conference Championship in his final year as a Highlander. He compiled over 4 wins and earned All Midwest Region. Derek was inducted into MacMurray's Hall of Fame in 2009 and was inducted to the SLIAC Hall of Fame in May of 2013.

Derek resides in Jacksonville with his wife Dana and two kids Addyson and Macee.
