The Highlander women's basketball team started strong but faded down the stretch in a 74-52 loss at Eureka College on Tuesday night in the SLIAC league opener for both clubs.
Coach Derek James' club led by as many as five points early in the game and had their last lead (23-22) with 7:17 left in the first half. The host Red Devils outscored the Highlanders 52-29 the rest of the game to pull away with the victory. The MacMurray women shot a cold 24% (18-74) for the game.
Senior guard Gabby Douglas had a team-high eleven points for the Highlanders, and Ashley Jenkins added ten points and eight rebounds. Megan Duisen and KayDee Carmody also pulled down eight rebounds apiece in the loss.
The host Red Devils had four players in double figures and were led by Jenna Brooks and Caty Eeten; who scored a game-high fifteen points each.
Eureka College improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in SLIAC play; while the Highlanders fall to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in SLIAC play.
MacMurray College returns to the court on Saturday at Principia College for another SLIAC contest. Tip-off is set for 1PM.
