Football celebrates 2012 season with awards

The MacMurray College football team honored 12 players with individual awards based off their 2012 season.  

• Running back Patrick Hall, son of Tyrone Thomas and Shon Thomas, of Pensacola, FL, was named Best Newcomer Offense. He totaled 748 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Hall is a freshman majoring in physical education.
• Sam Stanton of Collinsville, IL was named Best Newcomer Defense and Most Improved Defense for the 2012 season. The freshman special education major is the son of Scott and Laurie Stanton of Collinsville. Stanton totaled 19 tackles on the season.  
• Jorian Clemons, son of Charlena Towns, was named Best Unsung Offense.  Clemons had 35 receptions for a total of 426 yards for the 2012 season.  
• Bronson Black of O’Fallon, IL, was named Best Unsung Defense for the Highlanders. The junior defensive lineman is the son of Zsa Zsa Rendeczky, of O’Fallon.  Bronson tallied 18 tackles and 3 sacks on the season.  
• Tim Calvin of St. Louis, MO, was named Best Unsung Defense. The son of Edward and Adrienne Calvin is a junior criminal justice major.  Calvin placed in the top three for tackles on the team with 60 in 2012.
• Most Improved Offense went to freshman tight end Zach Mudd, of St. Charles, MO. He is the son of Brandon and Melodie Mudd, of St. Charles.
• Leo Coronado of Coppell, Texas received multiple honors for the 2012 season. The senior defensive lineman was named the Most Inspirational Defense player, Defense MVP and Sportsman of the Year. The criminal just major is the son of Laura Coronado. He led his team in tackles with 56.5 on the season. He also was selected from the team for the individual sportsmanship award by the UMAC.
• Anthony McKinney of Troy, MO, was also named Most Inspirational Defense player. The junior defensive lineman is majoring in sports management. McKinney tallied four sacks and 33.5 tackles on the season. He is the son of Hope McKinney of Moscow Mills, MO.
• Deshonta Smallwood of Fresno, CA, was named Offensive Player of the Year. Smallwood, the son of Shonta Smallwood and Tasha Thomas of Fresno, CA, is a senior business management major. He tallied 788 receiving yards, 42 receptions, and scored 13 touchdowns for the Highlander offense this season.
• Jacob Goodwin, of Fort Worth, TX, was named Student-Athlete of the Year. The junior offensive lineman is the son of Rick and Gail Goodwin, of Fort Worth.
• Senior wide receiver Daniel Routh of Edelstein, IL was named Student-Athlete of the Year. The biology major is the son of Ron and Anita Routh of Edelstein.
