The MacMurray College men's basketball team faced a tough test Thursday evening when they squared off with Spalding University in a conference battle. Both teams entered the game winners of 5 straight and atop of the SLIAC standings. The Highlanders gave them all they could handle for most of the contest. The two heavy weights traded blows and MacMurray went into the half down 33-42.
The Highlanders came roaring back in the second half. They were able to stay within striking distance until the waning moments of the game. Spalding's standout guard Dewhon McAfee went on a tear and the Highlanders could not quite answer. Sophomore Clayton Whitlock led the Highlander offense with 15 points in the contest while sophomore Dylan Guthrie tallied nine points. Despite a valiant effort, the Highlanders dropped their 2nd conference loss and sit at 9-7 on the season. The two teams will meet again in a February showdown. On Saturday, January 19th at 1pm the Highlanders will be set to take on Iowa Wesleyan College and are looking to begin another win streak.
