The MacMurray College football team defeated Westminster College for their annual homecoming game, 24-22. The victory marks the Highlanders first win of the season.
In front of many MacMurray alums and fans, the team posted an early lead in the first quarter, leading the contest 6-0 against the Blue Jays. Cody Hussey threw a 32 yard pass to Deshonta Smallwood in the end zone, marking the Highlanders first touchdown in the game. The Highlanders extra point was blocked. Westminster answered back with their own 10 yard complete pass in the second quarter, tying up the game 6-6 at the half.
The home team dominated the third quarter leaving the Blue Jays empty and tacking on two additional touchdowns each on passes by quarterback Hussey and clean catches by DeJohn Randle. Both conversion tries were unsuccessful.
Westminster would not back down as they responded with back to back touchdowns early in the fourth quarter and took the lead 22-18 over MacMurray. But with two minutes left in the contest, Hussey found his favorite receiver DeJohn Randle for a 40 yard touchdown pass. The late walk off score secured the Highlanders first win of the season.
MacMurray tallied 354 total offensive yards in the game. Deshonta Smallwood led the team with 85 receiving yards; while DeJohn Randle and Jorian Clemmons both chipped in with 83 receiving yards.
