Highlanders Drop Season Opener against Wartburg College

     The MacMurray College Highlander football team recorded its first loss of the season against Wartburg College on the road, by a final score of 73-0.

     Wartburg College dominated on offense as they recorded four touchdowns in the first quarter and continued pounding the attack with another three in the second, leading the Highlanders, 49 to 0 at the half.

     The Knights predominately rushed the ball, accumulating 371 yards rushing; while adding an additional 156 yards through the air.  Wartburg collected 527 total offensive yards in the contest.

     MacMurray’s offense showed no sign of life against a tough Wartburg defense.  Freshman Patrick Hill was Macs leading rusher with 29 yards while freshman DeJohn Randle lead the team in receiving.  Jorian Clemons topped the team in kick return yardage with 61 yards.

    Junior Raymond Smith led the Highlander defense with five tackles.  Sophomore DeRon Terry, freshman William Witherspoon, and junior Tim Calvin all recorded four tackles apiece.

    The Highlander football team will make their home debut this Saturday, September 8th against Crown College.
