The 2011 MacMurray Soccer team made their presence felt and are back on the conference and regional scene. After the Highlanders suffered through an 0-17 season in 2010, the 2011 8-11 season can be considered a success and a step toward the top of the conference.
“I am proud of this team and what they accomplished,” said first-year head coach Shane Taylor. “I am happy for our three seniors to have had the opportunity to be a part of a competitive team which won 8 games. I know we will look back on 2011 and say, ‘Hey, what a great turn-around season Mac had; we won three conference games including a win against Principia.’ We had so many impact players that worked hard and bonded as a team a little better every time they stepped on the field. The foundation has been set and the future of this program looks bright.”
The Highlanders bid farewell to the Senior Class of Cameron Pollitt, Josh Riley, and Karl Tooren; three players who will be missed for their talent, leadership, and work ethic.
The team will return 11 players in 2012 including Sophomores Blake Camacho, Cody Cook, Mason Rowe, Connor Winking, and Bradley Wise who will be looking to anchor the team. In addition to the returners, Coach Taylor is looking to add 10-15 new student-athletes to his roster. “We have the opportunity for the first-year guys to compete for spots now, not in two years,” said Taylor. With a good core of players coming back and another successful recruiting class, Mac will make a push for a top position in the conference in 2012.
