The MacMurray College softball team swept Blackburn College Wednesday evening in a SLIAC doubleheader at Blackburn. The games had been rescheduled twice prior to getting them in today.
Coach Lexy Determan's club scored five times in the tenth inning to win the first game 11-6; and earned the sweep with an 8-4 decision in game #2.
Freshman pitcher Michala Swanger went all ten innings in the extra-inning win in game #1. She gave up six runs (4 earned) on 9 hits, struck out five and did not allow a walk.
Daerial DeGroot and Mackenzie Hocker each homered in the game. DeGroot went 3-6 with a home run, a double and three runs batted in. Hocker went 2-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Breezy Walton went 3-5 with an RBI; Roni Grgin went 3-6 with an RBI and a run scored; and Mike Morgan went 2-6 and scored four runs for the Highlanders.
Kendyl Cummins was the winning pitcher in the second game. She gave up four runs (one earned) on 8 hits and struck out three and allowed one walk. Swanger was the hitting hero in game #2 going 3-4 with five runs batted in and a home run. Tiffany Hazelwonder went 2-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Jenalee Stine and DeGroot each went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Highlanders, who have now won four of their last five games, improve to 8-15 overall and 4-6 in SLIAC play. They'll travel to Principia College tomorrow evening for another conference doubleheader.
