The MacMurray College men's basketball team had their three-game winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon in a 74-69 loss at Fontbonne University. The loss, coupled with a Spalding University win on Saturday, eliminated the Highlanders' chance at a tie for the regular-season SLIAC conference title.
The Griffins shot a solid 53 percent from the field, while the Highlanders were a chilly 39.7 percent from the field in the loss. Fontbonne also outshot the Highlanders from the free throw line; with the Griffins going 24-31 from the line; while Mac shot 14-25 from the charity stripe.
Brady Slagle led the Highlanders with a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds. Spencer Pratt had thirteen points and Clayton Whitlock was the only other Highlander in double figures with ten points.
Fontbonne was led by Koty Ettinger's eighteen points; while Jared Greenlee added seventeen points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Coach Todd Creal's club closes out the regular-season on Tuesday night when they host Iowa Wesleyan College on Senior Night. The Highlanders will face Webster University in the semi-finals of the SLIAC Conference Tournament on Thursday night at Spalding University. Tip-off for Thursday's first of two semi-finals will be at 5PM. #1-seed and host Spalding University will face Westminster College at 7PM; and the conference championship game will be Saturday at noon at Spalding.
