Eureka College visited Bill Wall Gymnasium Tuesday, February 19th to take on the MacMurray College Women's Basketball team. It was Senior Night for the Highlanders, but they were not able to send their seniors out with a victory. They fell 55-49 to the Red Devils in a heart breaker.
Either team was hard pressed to find scoring in the first half. The game was hectic and fast paced throughout, with both squads competing till the last whistle. Sophomore Megan Duisen provided a good spark off of the bench for the Highlander's with 9 points in just 14 minutes of play. In a defensive struggle, the halftime score was just 21-26 with Eureka on top.
The Red Devil's extended their lead into the double digits in the beginning of the second half. The spirited Highlander's refused to go away quietly though. Defense and turnovers helped them grind their way back into the game. MacMurray gave themselves a chance to win it late, but ultimately fell short 49-55. The Highlanders saw double digit scoring efforts from seniors Rachel Yeast and Amy Radford in their last performance in front of their home crowd.
With the loss the Lady Highlander's finish the season at 10-14 and 7-9 in the conference. MacMurray won 5 of their last 7 games and wrap up the season with positive momentum going forward.
