Highlanders Slip in SLIAC Play

January 26, 2013

The MacMurray Highlander women’s basketball team played Westminster College on Saturday, January 26th at home. MacMurray was defeated 66-48 by the visiting Blue Jays. The loss marks the third straight conference loss for the Highlanders.

MacMurray fell behind early in this one and dug themselves into a hole. By halftime MacMurray was trailing 34-21.  They hustled and fought hard to try and keep things close, but the Blue Jays were too efficient. Westminster made more than half of their shots and held the Highlanders to just 35% shooting for the game.  Despite great play from sophomore Fonashay Potter, the Highlanders came up short.

Senior Amy Radford was again dominant in the paint with 11 rebounds. Sophomore Fonashay Potter led all Mac scorers with 16 points and junior Sierra Sherrod led all players with 7 assists. With the loss the Highlanders move to 5-11 on the season and 3-7 in the SLIAC. Next up they travel to St. Louis to take on Fontbonne University Wednesday, January 30th in another conference meeting.
