The MacMurray College men’s soccer team opened up their season with a 1-1 record competing in two contests hosted by Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Freshman Kevin Castro scored the first goal for the Highlanders this season on Friday, August 31st against host Buena Vista. The Beavers managed to tally five goals in the contest, topping the Highlanders by a final score of 5-1 in their season opener.
MacMurray was forced to step up their defense as the Beavers recorded 12 shots on goal in the game. Freshman goalkeeper Brayden Hutfless recorded seven saves in the contest in net.
The Highlanders were back to action on September 1st in Storm Lake as they faced Northland College at 4:00pm. Both teams recorded a shutout until the middle of the second half when sophomore Blake Comacho knocked in a goal with help from sophomore Bradley Wise. Mac was able to make their one goal stand up for their first victory of the 2012 season. Northland tallied just two shots on goal in the contest while MacMurray goalkeeper freshman Zach Richter snatched two saves.
MacMurray men’s soccer will continue play on Wednesday, September 5th as they welcome Lincoln Christian University on their home turf for their 2012 season home opener.
