Presidential Scholarship Competition

February 8, 2014

Please note this page is designed for those who have been invited via paper invitation to the Presidential Scholarship Competition & Residential Fellows Competition. Please contact our office to verify your invitation if you have not received it.

Congratulations on your invitation to participate in MacMurray College's prestigious Presidential Scholarship Competition. This page is designed for you and your family to prepare for the competition and get some of your questions answered.

Preparing for the Competition

The competition will include an interview, so students need to dress for a job interview. There will also be plenty of walking, so female participants are encouraged to bring a pair of comfortable shoes to walk from building to building.

Check In

Check in for the competition will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Julian Hall for Chemistry. Parking is available on the south end of the building or just to the northwest of Julian, off Clay Avenue. Staff and signs will be available to point you in the right direction. Hotel information is located on our Amenities page.

The event will last the entire day. You are free to leave after your individual afternoon interview, but you must check in and participate in all activities during the competition. We cannot rearrange schedules for events outside of the competition (family events, high school activities), so please plan accordingly.

A continental breakfast and lunch will be served for all.

Competition Components

The Competition will include the following components for students:

  1. essay;
  2. individual interview with faculty, staff, students, and alumni;
  3. sessions on our Foundation Program, Center for Learning Excellence, Academic Affairs, and Student Life.

Parents will also have the opportunity to meet with faculty, staff, and students, as well as attend the following:

  1. individual financial aid appointment (time scheduled at check in);
  2. sessions on our Foundation Program, Center for Learning Excellence, Academic Affairs, and Student Life.

Students will be notified of the results by the end of February.
