Off-Campus Studies
MacMurray students have many opportunities to study beyond the MacMurray campus in Jacksonville. Opportunities exist here in the United States and all over the world. Study with an approved off-campus program will earn credit toward graduation.
How Does It Work?
Students may study off campus for one fall or spring semester. Students may study off campus for an unlimited number of May and summer terms.
May Term study tours offer the opportunity to earn credit traveling with MacMurray faculty. Past May Term tours have gone to Ireland, Greece and Italy, Greece and Egypt, and Norway and Denmark. The 2012 tour, led by Profs. R.J. Stewart and Eric Berg, concentrated on Florence and Rome and qualified for credit as part of the IOCC General Education sequence (see a photo gallery of the trip).
To apply for off-campus study, a student must have junior standing at the beginning of the program, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and letters of recommendation from two faculty members. Some programs may have additional requirements. The application is sent to the Academic Standards Committee and must be received by September 15 for the spring semester or February 15 for the fall semester.
All off-campus study with other institutions is subject to MacMurray standards for transfer credit.
The cost of these programs varies tremendously. Some programs cost more than an ordinary semester at MacMurray. However, some programs are quite affordable. Students who enroll in off-campus study approved for credit by MacMurray College will continue to apply for and receive financial aid through MacMurray College, the home institution. For details, see the Academic Opportunities section of the academic catalog.
