Sociology has been taught at MacMurray since 1914. Courses are available as electives and as service courses required in other majors.
SOCG 201. Introduction to Sociology. (3) An introduction to the general principles of sociology and its subfields, including an investigation into the development of culture and subcultures; the effects of groups and institutions on personal behavior; structure and process in social interaction.
SOCG 225. Dating, Marriange, and Family. (3) An analysis of the patterns of interpersonal relations involved in dating, marrying, and parenting. Prerequisites: Sociology 201.
SOCG 321. Social Psychology. (3) Analysis of the psychological processes in relation to social situations and interpersonal behavior. How language, perception, learning, thinking, motivation, traits, and attitudes determine and result from social interaction and group processes. Same as Psychology 321. Prerequisite: Psychology 201.
