Program
Overview
The pre-medicine program at MacMurray College
is a highly successful one, with a placement rate that is much
higher than the national average. Nationwide, about 60% of
applicants are accepted into medical school; but over the last
ten years 100% of applicants from MacMurray have been accepted.
Faculty members in biology and chemistry
work with Pre-Med students from the first semester of the freshman
year. Students majoring in biology would follow the Health Track.
Under the guidance of experienced teachers and advisors, students
are better able to achieve good grades and prepare for the Medical
College Admission Test, or MCAT. The academic advisor monitors
academic progress and advises students on courses to take and
strategies for applying to medical school.
Factors taken into account by medical school admissions committees include
grade-point average, score on the MCAT and record of campus involvement. Generally,
the successful medical school applicant has a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better,
and no less than 3.5.
