The curriculum required for entrance into dental
school is identical to that required for medical school. Acceptance
to dental school tends to be slightly less competitive than acceptance
to medical school.
The process for application to dental school is similar
to that for medical school. Students take the Dental Admission Test (DAT) in
the spring of their junior year. The DAT is somewhat different in context from
the MCAT, or Medical College Admission Test. Although test-takers are no longer
asked to carve a block of chalk as a measurement of manual dexterity, there is
a series of questions that measure visual perception (mirror images, picking
out an item that is different from others in its set, etc.).
MacMurray College's biology major (Health track) insures
a solid preparation in the sciences. Beginning in the freshman year, students
benefit from constant contact with faculty members in biology and chemistry who
have had years of experience teaching and advising students headed for Health
Care professions.
