Accounting Program Overview
Our major in Accountancy prepares students
for accounting careers in businesses, not-for-profit agencies
and government. MacMurray also offers a Major in Business Administration
with emphases in Management, Marketing, Finance, Accounting,
and International Business.
Our accounting major combines a well directed liberal arts education and a solid
study of business administration with an in-depth study of accounting. The ability
to communicate, both orally and in writing, are emphasized throughout the program.
Viewing business from a global perspective
begins in the freshman year and continues to be emphasized
throughout the program. Small class size and a caring faculty
enhance the learning experience.

Internships
Internships are encouraged for juniors and seniors concentrating in all areas
of Business Administration and Accountancy. Internships provide exposure to and
experience in the professional worlds of businesses, charitable organizations
and government.
Faculty members in the Business Department, working with the Director of Career
Services, assist students in obtaining internship positions and oversee the supervision
of the student during the experience. The positions vary from a few hours per
week to full-time and from unpaid to entry-level. Positions have been held in
government agencies, charitable organizations, financial institutions, businesses
and accounting firms. Some are in the Jacksonville area and some are near the
students' homes or in other major metropolitan areas.
